ONE little girl has captured the hearts of the community.
And that was obvious on Saturday night when $75,000 was raised to help six-year-old Madilyn Lanesbury.
Madi had 350 family and friends attend the Madi’s Wish Foundation Benefit night at the Muswellbrook Worker’s Club.
For those in attendance, it was the smile on her little face that made the night a wonderful success.
Madi is a brave battler with a big heart and an adorable smile.
For those who don’t know, Madi was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease in September last year.
The disease, which would normally take up to 10 years to cause full renal failure, attacked Madi aggressively.
On December 8, exactly three months after her initial diagnosis she went into renal
failure.
Because of other complications Madi spent three months in hospital, with her parents, Steve and Natalie, by her side.
Natalie spent every night with Madi in her room, while Steve travelled back and forth for work, staying in Ronald McDonald House while he was in Sydney.
A benefit night was held for the Madi’s Wish Foundation on Saturday and tickets were sold out a month before.
Organised by Ledonna Fuller and Karen Beckingham, the event raised $75,000 through auctions, donations and ticket sales.
When speaking with The Muswellbrook Chronicle on Tuesday Natalie was still lost for words.
“We are just gob smacked, we’re very, very happy.
“We’d like to thank all our family, friends, businesses and all of Muswellbrook for a wonderful night,” Natalie said.
“I still close my eyes and all I see is smiling faces.”
Natalie could not express how appreciative Steve, Madi and herself were.
“I’d like to congratulate Ledonna and Karen on their wonderful job, the organisation was brilliant.
“And a big thank you from Madi,” she said.
There was also a huge raffle with about 150 prizes.
“Because everyone was putting their hands in their pockets for us, we wanted them to take something home as well.
A special guest visit from Fairy Sparkles widened the grin on Madi’s face, especially when she got to dance on stage with Fairy.
“What made (the night) was that Madi was really well,” Natalie said.
“She loved every bit of it, from organisation, to setting up to the night, and for her to be well on the night just topped it all off,” she said.
If you would like to contribute to the Madi’s Wish Foundation there is a raffle still running or you can make a donation to the Madi’s Wish Foundation at the Muswellbrook branch of the Westpac Bank.
It is hoped that Madi will soon be well enough to have the required tests that will allow her to be put on the kidney transplant list.
The funds raised at the benefit will help the family stay together during Madi’s hospital stay when the time comes for a transplant.
