Boat race with no water

12 Feb, 2010 07:59 AM
The Muswellbrook PCYC is looking to pit local businesses and organisations against one another in a boat race that has the distinction of being all out of water.

The first ever PCYC Dry Boat Derby will take to the Muswellbrook Racecourse on March 14 and promises to be a fun filled family affair.

Local businesses will be required to make a $400 donation to participate in order to enter a boat in what will essentially be a foot race in boats that are expected to have holes in the bottom.

There will be plenty to race for as entrants set their sites on the first prize of three flat screen Toshiba 40 inch LCD televisions valued at $1,399.

Muswellbrook PCYC manager De-anne Douglas said the event was hoped to bring the community together for an enjoyable day of entertainment.

“There will be three competitors in each team and one of them has to be a woman. They will compete in 100m heats before the final takes place over 140m,” she said.

“The whole idea is to make it a big fun family day with lots of entertainment.”

In addition to the races there will be musical performances, market stalls and face painting throughout the day. All money raised from the market stalls will be donated to Integrated Living.

Those registered to race will be invited to a cocktail function the Friday night prior to the event in the function room of the race club when the heat draw will take place.

To enter a boat or for more details please contact Muswellbrook PCYC on 6541 1434.
