Justine joins ranks at hospital

05 Feb, 2010 09:29 AM
Justine Rashleigh made her way through the wards of Muswellbrook Hospital for the first time as a registered nurse this week.

The 25-year-old completed a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Newcastle in December and was welcomed into the hospital on Tuesday.

She is one of 162 graduate nurses that took on positions in the Hunter New England region and said she was valuing the opportunity to gain more hands on experience.

“It was a little overwhelming starting at first but it is quite a friendly atmosphere,” she said.

“While I was at university there were pracs once every month for about a month each time but I’m looking forward to spending a longer period of time learning on the job.”

Ms Rashleigh grew up in Bateau Bay on the Central Coast but on studying in Newcastle knew she wanted a job working in the Hunter.

Her caring nature was what first prompted her to begin her studies in nursing.

“I wanted a hands on jobs where you could work with

people,” she said.

“It is very rewarding caring for people who are in need.”
