MUSWELLBROOK Chronicle advertising sales consultant Karen Egan sold her way to the top by winning the Fairfax Media Limited Regional Publishing Telemarketing or Classified Salesperson of the Year award.
Of the three finalists Karen was named the best salesperson in Australia and New Zealand at last Friday’s Fairfax Regional Publishing awards ceremony at the Sydney Convention Centre.
Considering the large number of entries, Karen was both shocked and excited to receive the award.
“I didn’t expect to be a finalist let alone win as I haven’t been working at the Chronicle for a year yet,” Karen said.
Karen began her career as a sales consultant in 1997 and has since worked in radio and other local businesses prior to beginning at the Chronicle in July 2007.
In 1999, Karen won the Australian Commercial Radio Awards Best Newcomer and the Best Country Salesperson in 2005, with her newspaper accolade proving her skill across different media fields.
Thoroughly enjoying her position at the Chronicle, Karen was excited and proud to receive the award.
“I think it’s just excellent and it’s a great achievement for the newspaper on a whole,” Karen said.
“Naturally, it wouldn’t have been possible without the quality of the product to sell and the wonderful businesses that support us,” she said.
Hunter Valley News/Muswellbrook Chronicle manager, Jelinda Millgate commended Karen for her excellent achievement.
“Karen really deserves the award considering how hard she works and the wonderful contribution she has made to the Chronicle,” Jelinda said.
The awards dinner and awards ceremony was attended by about 500 people as part of the 2008 Regional, Community, Agricultural and Printing Sales Conference.
The local area showed excellence as The Hunter Valley News classifieds and sales team were also named finalists in the Classifieds and Sales Team of the Year Award.
