The Muswellbrook Lioness Club continue to put their stamp on the list of charitable organisations they support throughout the community.
The group of generous ladies meets every few months to put in hours of work for local charities including the St Vincent de Paul Society, Lifeline and the Samaritans.
With the cold of winter upon us the club has been devoting their time to electric blanket repairs over the last few meetings.
The ladies join for a social day whilst working for a good cause.
“It’s a good social day as everybody gets together and brings a plate for lunch,” lioness Wilma Holmes said.
Removing the wires from the electric blankets before returning the blankets to the charity organisations is just one of the activities of the Lioness Club ladies.
Members of the club collect and send old stamps to the Sydney stamp auction with all proceeds donated to the Australian Lions Children’s Mobility Foundation.
Over $2000 was donated to the foundation last year just from stamp collections over Australia.
Reading glasses are the third project of the Lioness Club.
Used spectacles are cleaned and sent overseas to assist people in less fortunate countries with poor eye sight.
The club has been collecting stamps for many years and repairing blankets for three years now, finding it a great contribution in the winter months.
Ms Holmes said the idea originally came from another club in Queensland.
“It is good to go to Lioness seminars because you get to hear all the different ideas,” Ms Holmes said.
“The blankets are a good fundraiser because everyone wants to buy a new electric blanket and you can’t re-sell the old blankets,” she said.
The devotion to help others in need was evident in the room as the ladies worked.
“We serve the community, that is the motto of Lionesses,” lioness Nancy Bullard said.
All donations of blankets, stamps and reading glasses would be gratefully accepted by the club.
