The Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band recently travelled to Newcastle to compete in the East Coast of Australia Band Championships.
Competing against Newcastle bands from the University of Newcastle and Toronto Brass, the Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band took out first prize in the prestigious ‘Festival of the Bands’ section.
Entertaining the crowd with renditions of “The Devil went down to Georgia” - featuring solo violin and “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” featuring young local musicians Sophie and James Milwain and Nicholas Logan, the band also performed well in the earlier Championship sections.
The band also regularly teams up with Muswellbrook Amateur Theatre Society, and will shortly present a concert of “Musicals Galore!”
Including such favourites as Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Cats and many more, the concert will be held on Saturday November 21, at 7pm at the Muswellbrook High School MPC.
The band will perform this weekend at the St James School Fete in Simpson Park, and at the Muswellbrook South School Fete on December 4.
The Muswellbrook Shire Concert Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings, 7pm to 9pm, at the Muswellbrook Swimming Club room.
New band members are always welcome.
