One of the first entrants in this year’s Upper Hunter Showgirl competition is determined to break the stereotype of what makes a successful showgirl.
Hayley Parkinson of Muswellbrook says she views the competition as an opportunity to improve herself and the way she interacts with people through the interview process.
Hayley grew up on a property out of town and first entered the competition when she was 18.
She feels she has grown wiser since then and has made the decision to enter again so she can get the most out of the competition.
“It is a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people,” Miss Parkinson said.
“It is something I have wanted to do again – it was fun.”
The competition also offers an opportunity for her to give something back to the community and make friends.
The competition offers women between 18 and 24 the opportunity to share their passion for the Upper Hunter with the community. Entrants are judged on their personality, presentation and knowledge of the Upper Hunter, state, national and international affairs.
The winner receives $500 from Muswellbrook RSL Club and the opportunity to enter in the zone showgirl competition for the chance to participate in the Sydney Royal Easter Show Showgirl competition. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.upperhuntershow.com.au or by phoning Cloe Tuller on 0427 562 781.
Entries close on Friday, March 2.
