WHEN Relay for Life gets underway in Muswellbrook this month, two of the keenest walkers will be Rhylee and Colby Tuckerman.
Rhylee, 7, will be wearing a survivor’s ribbon, while her little sister Colby will proudly wear the carers sash.
First diagnosed in March 2006 with neuroblastoma, a cancer of the nervous system, Rhylee’s mum Kim said she had 10 months of treatment and was then in remission for 18 months.
“Rhylee relapsed in July 2008 and had another 10 months of chemotheraphy,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“At the moment she is doing well.”
Mrs Tuckerman, her husband Josh and the two girls, have participated in Relay for Life since 2007.
“This will be Rhylee’s third year,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
“She loves it, she is really looking forward
to it.”
Mrs Tuckerman said Relay for Life is a beautiful event to raise money for the Cancer Council for research and to hopefully one day find a cure for the disease.
Muswellbrook’s Relay for Life will be held on October 24 and 25 at Weeraman Field and teams are being urged to register to take part.
An information night will be held at Muswellbrook RSL on Monday, October 12 from 5.30pm to 6.15pm.
Team representatives and any interested community members are invited to attend.
Registrations will be taken at the information night, online at www.relayforlife.org.au or registration forms can be picked up from the Muswellbrook Chronicle office in Market Lane, Muswellbrook.
