Students learn about bus safety

19 Feb, 2010 08:24 AM
Kindergarten students in the Muswellbrook region have been learning the dos and don’ts of riding on a bus this week.

The newest additions to the school community heard from a bus driver and a police officer on the right way to ride a bus as part of the NRMA’s bus safety program.

The children at St James Primary School took part in the program yesterday and learnt how to safely get on and leave a bus, the right way to behave on the bus and what to do if they miss their stop.

At the end of the session they put into practice what they learnt as bus driver Janelle Passfield took them for a ride.

The students also received a book as well as information for parents on how they can help.

NRMA Bus Safety Muswell-brook coordinator Kristine Smith said by the time all of the schools have been visited the program will have reached about 420 kindergarten students with trips to Scone, Denman and Aberdeen schools as well as Muswellbrook.
