MUSWELLBROOK golfer Kurt Barnes returned to China earlier in the month to continue on from his success of winning the Omega China Tour in April.
Barnes became the first Australian to win on the China tour, graciously closing with an even-par 72 to seal a one-stroke victory in the Sofitel Zhongshan IGC Open in Nanjing.
On June 8, the 28-year-old pro golfer landed in Chengdu to play in the Luxehills Golf Championship at the Luxehills International Country Club.
Barnes was recognised for his success by being asked to attend the press conference to open the tournament, a new experience for him.
After four days of competition from June 11 to 14, Barnes finished fifth in the event at seven under.
Continuing on his circuit Barnes began preparing for his next event, the Dongfeng Nissan Teana Open at the newly built Anji King Valley Country Club which finished up on Sunday.
Prior to the tournament Barnes was confident, and he said in his online blog he was in good form and hoped to be challenging in the competition.
Overall he finished forth outright.
Barnes said he was a little disappointed after leading for the first 36 holes.
"Putting and chipping was a let down on the weekend," he said.
Next on the agenda is Queensland in July when Barnes plays in four big pro-am tournaments in Mackay, Rockhampton, Capricorn and Hervey Bay.
Barnes, who still lives in Muswellbrook, said it was awesome to be the first Australian to win on the China tour.
"Every time I win it’s nice, but when it’s overseas it’s even better," he said.
The 27-year-old also played in the Volvo China Open closing with a six-under round and joint 11th in Beijing.
After playing in the local Pro-Am event at Muswellbrook Golf Club on Wednesday Barnes is now preparing for a trip to Korea.
He said when he flies out on Monday it will be the start of a fair bit of travelling.
"I’m going over there to win it.
"Now I’ve got the winning feeling back, I know that every competition I’m in I’ve got a big chance at a top 10 finish," Barnes said.
Barnes said he would like to thank a lot of people for all their support.
"I’d like to thank Paul Finkle, Scott Dial, Casey, Kayden, Mum, Dad, my sister and nephew, coach Christian Small, life coach John Novah, financial advisor Graham Biesse, Rod Bennett, the adopted family The Watts from Melbourne and everybody for the local support," he said.
