MUSWELLBROOK’S junior tennis champion Rene Boyton will fly out to Adelaide tomorrow to represent NSW in the Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) Australian Championships.
Boyton was called into the NSW team in August as one of seven representatives to play in the eight day championships.
Being the only country player and the first time he has been selected in such a team, the excitement for the young player is bubbling.
Boyton has been playing tennis since he was three-years-old and he is now a Hunter Academy of Sport representative, winner of the Newcastle Junior Open Under 11s competition as well as playing number one in the Hunter team at the NSW PSSA State Carnival which helped him gain selection in the NSW team.
The physical and competitive demand is sure to be great in Adelaide when Boyton plays singles, doubles and mixed doubles against competitors from different states each day.
He said some days he would play three matches and others two, but he was looking forward to the championships.
By training five days a week and with his added enthusiasm, the Muswellbrook Public School student is in good stead for the trip.
Boyton said he was looking forward to the championships and had been training hard for it.
He thanked his Hunter coach Jono Russell and his personal coach Shannon Bluhm for all their training and support.
