The Muswellbrook under 12 girls had a cracking carnival at the Peter Wilson Touch Football Championships with their grand final going down to the wire – literally – including 15 minutes of extra time drop.
The girls lost their first game by one to Berkley Vale which then spurred them on to win 3-0 against Doyalson, 6-1 against Taree and 5-1 over Newcastle City.
A further three games were played on Sunday with the girls beating Nelson Bay 3-1, West Wallsend 2-0 and 2-0 again over Newcastle City in the semi final.
Coach Megan Parker said the girls put in a sensational effort the entire weekend and the grand final result was purely due to fatigue.
“The score was one-all and then we went into extra time drop,” Mrs Parker said.
She said Muswellbrook started confidently and their early try came from Sophie Morgan.
“It took about 15 minutes and we were down to three players each. There was nothing special about Berkley Vale’s try the girls were just fatigued.”
The under 12 girls will now compete at the NSW Junior State Cup Championships at Wollongong this weekend.
