NSW vs QLD at the show

12 Mar, 2010 09:11 AM
This year the NSW vs Queensland Intermediate Series to be held at the Bengalla Upper Hunter Show promises to be an interesting tussle between the two teams as Queensland are going to be trying for their third win in a row over their NSW opponents.

This series is the State of Origin of polocrosse, it is one of the few competitions played between NSW and QLD exclusively aimed at the intermediate players which allows them to gain state representative experience before they step out into the senior ranks.

In the ten years the series has been played at the Muswellbrook Showground, NSW still have a 7 – 3 advantage.

This year NSW player, Jess Grills is the only one to have played in the series before.

The players will all be in the area by Thursday in time to meet up with their coaches and managers and settle in at the campdraft grounds at Aberdeen for some last minute team strategy talks before the games begin.

The players and their supporters along with coaches and managers will attend an official dinner at the ‘Purple Olive’ on Thursday night March 18.

The teams will all be in their official state uniforms and the coaches will introduce the captains and players who will in turn stand up and tell us where they come from and what club they play for and some of their polocrosse experience.

On Friday they will have two polocrosse games and the final game, which could be the decider, will be on Saturday after the grand parade and the naming of the Upper Hunter Showgirl winner.

A social gathering will be held at the Aberdeen Bowling Club on Friday night March 19 where players will enjoy an informal meal at the Chinese restaurant.

Again all players and team officials and supporters are welcome to attend.

The NSW coach is Ben Tunnicliff and QLD coach is Robert Austin.

NSW Manager is Linda Broad and QLD manager is Fiona Wheeler.

The NSW team is Jess Grills, Jamie Lee Brian, Blake Mallon, Rebecca Carter, Ross Mallon, Leticia Payten and Ryan Webb.

The QLD team is Luke Taylor, Lachalan Osborne, Michael Castles, Christopher Hall, Nick Perkins, Christopher Sillitoe and Ashlee Wheeler.
