Trainer on winning streak

28 Sep, 2009 11:51 AM
THE number of wins being recorded by runners from the Muswellbrook racing stables of trainer Jan Bowen continue to grow rapidly, with another three added to the tally in recent weeks.

Situated adjacent to Skellatar Park Racecourse, the stable’s latest success was Shrewd Buy at Dubbo on Sunday.

Ridden by stable apprentice jockey, Daniel Northey, Shrewd Buy won the Rating 57 Handicap over 1600 metres.

Despite winning a 1400 metre maiden at Mudgee a few weeks previously, the five-year-old gelding paid $32.10 on the TAB for a win at Dubbo on Sunday.

Shrewd Buy has recorded two wins and a second from 13 race starts.

Jan Bowen was also in the winner’s circle at Broadmeadow on Cameron Handicap Day last week when Jest Crewsin’ ($11.00) took out the 900 metres Handicap from the $2.50 favourite Black Prince.

Pat Farrell’s Sprilina ($5.00) was a head away third.

Jest Crewsin’, a four-year-old gelding by Brahms from Jester Crew, was ridden by Peter Robl.

Another Muswellbrook galloper, Newton’s Rings, just failed in a bid to win the $45,000 Dubbo Sky Gold Cup (1600m) on Sunday.

Trained by Jeff Englebrecht, the veteran galloper had to settle for second place behind the winner Tora Tora Tora, after leading the field for most of the way – an unfamiliar role for the nine-year-old, who was ridden by apprentice, Hari Singh.

Despite the loss the trainer was happy with Newton’s Rings sterling performance and is now looking towards a start for the stable champion in the forthcoming $40,000 Mt Arthur Muswellbrook Cup (1750m) on Tuesday, November 3.

Scone trainer Bill Farrow won the Open Handicap (1100m) at Dubbo with Silver Street.

The race favourite Dance Arena ($3.00), trained by Mack Griffith, finished third.

At Tamworth on Saturday, Griffith and Harry Singh, combined to win the Class two Handicap (1000m) with Sutton Manor.

Another local trainer Michael Dobie, won the Rating 57 Handicap (1400m) with Coervice Act (T McIntosh).
