Quinton Edwards and Ethan Christianson competed in the Northern NSW under 16s Junior Championships on the weekend, never considering that they might make the team.

But as it happened they were the only two from the Group 21 side to do so.

They join 18 others in the team and it is the first time either has been selected at such a high level making the achievement even more exciting.

“We just went in and played. We didn’t ever think about being selected,” Quinton said.

“We were just shocked that we got selected. There were others in the team that we were expecting to get selected ahead of us.”

Ethan most commonly plays on the wing while Quinton is a centre with both impressing the selectors who watched all of the matches during the weekend competition.

The team was successful against Group 1 and the Central Coast but was beaten by Group 2.

The performance against Group 1 was particularly impressive for the two boys selected with Quinton and Ethan both scoring two tries. Quinton also made seven conversions in that match.

They will have little time to revel in the achievement as they combine as the Northern NSW Country side on June 20.

After intensive training on the Saturday they will take to the field against the Southern NSW Country team which was chosen at a separate event in Wagga Wagga on the weekend.

It will not only be north versus south but will also serve as the selection process for the NSW

country side.
