Saturday’s Group 21 Rugby League games between Aberdeen and Muswellbrook were called off when Group 21 officials postponed the entire round on Friday night. The fate of this round is yet to be determined.
This weekend, the Aberdeen RLFC will be holding its 90th anniversary reunion. On Friday night, patrons can be entertained by ‘Carrot’ at the Aberdeen Bowling Club.
McKinnon Field will become the focus point on Saturday afternoon from noon with junior league exhibition games to start proceedings. At 12.45pm, the Golden Oldies game that will feature some of the Tigers’ top players from the 1980s and 1990s, will take place.
Some players who will be taking part include Robert Colbert, Ben Daniels, David Douglass, James Haggarty, Graeme Huddleston, Troy Logan, Scott McKinnon, Brad Milton, Tim Morrison, John Adams, Greg Bock, Danny Buckman, Wayne Chapman, Andrew Ellis, Mark Feeney, Ron Foot, Robert French, Trevor Jones, Mick Klus, Rod Margetts, Scott McGrath, Butch Smith and Tim Smith.
There will be canteen facilities at the ground.
The 90th anniversary reunion dinner will be held at the Aberdeen Bowling Club from 6pm on Saturday evening. A presentation will be held after dinner that is to include interviews with former and current players as well as the naming of merit teams from the 1980s and 1990s.
There will also be an auction of a retro set of jerseys and the playing of a club history DVD. There are still some tickets available for the dinner.
A courtesy bus will be in operation from the Aberdeen Bowling Club on Friday and Saturday evenings. The club can be contacted on 6543 7226 for courtesy bus bookings.
On Sunday morning there will be a breakfast/lunch at the Aberdeen Bowling Club from 11am. Everyone is invited to participate in, what is sure to be a memorable weekend.
