The Muswellbrook Heelers coach says fitness and teamwork will be the priorities for the club as it looks towards a new season of rugby union.
Michael Hall coached the first grade side last year with Matt Gallagher, but Hall is taking on the duties alone in 2012.
“I think last year we didn’t focus well enough in some areas and we were overrun,” Hall said.
“Core strength and fitness is going to be a massive priority and teamwork.
“If we can keep a good team together it will put us in good stead.”
The squad will be boosted this season by the return of key players, including Tristan Cruickshank, Kurt Everingham and Mitchell Googe, who Hall plans to place in the fullback or five-eighth position.
Murray O’Keefe, who enjoyed a strong season last year, will also be back on the park for the Heelers in 2012.
The club is also keen to recruit some new blood to the team.
Shiftwork left the Heelers depleted for some games last year and Hall has expressed a willingness to be flexible for shiftworkers.
“I’m willing to change traditional training times to look at the shiftwork structure,” he said.
“We understand the work environment that we live in and we are trying to accommodate that work environment.
“It’s time to rebuild the club with a new generation of players.”
Club president Tim Pike said he was banking on the Heelers reaching the grand final this season.
“We’re excited to have Michael Hall back on board as first grade coach this year and I think the number of players coming to training reflects the faith they have in such a coach as Mick,” Pike said.
Interested players are welcome to attend training at Highbrook Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm.
