Marking the 1966 battle of Long Tan, veterans from the area will stand side-by-side with members of the Sydney Vietnamese community – both groups remembering the fallen.
“The Muswellbrook [RSL] Sub-Branch has built a good relationship with the Vietnamese community in Sydney,” Muswellbrook RSL Sub-Branch secretary/treasurer John Tant said.
“This will be filmed and sent world-wide.”
Like Anzac Day, Muswellbrook school students will be involved again, as they have been in the past, to continue their education.
“I think it is imperative we keep these days going, for the younger generations,” Mr Tant said.
“The whole community has always been good at coming out and showing their support of the RSL Sub-Branch.”
Formalities begin at 3pm with the dedication and unveiling of a plaque at the memorial remembering the South Vietnamese soldiers, who supported the Australians and allied troops throughout the conflict.
This will be followed by the main service.
Both events include guest speakers and performances, including national president of the Australian Vietnamese Community of Australia Vo-Tri-Dung and NSW president Nguyen-Van-Thanh.
The services will take place at the Vietnam Memorial on the New England Highway, with parking available on property adjacent to the site.
Traffic control will be in place directing visitors to parking and enforcing reduced speed limits during the event.
