APRIL:POPCORN ANYONE? Muswellbrook families are pulling out their picnic blankets and warm winter jackets to be ready for the open-air movie screenings in Muswellbrook and Denman. Four film nights will be held in the shire, starting on Sunday at Highbrook Park, as part of Muswellbrook Shire Council’s Blue Heeler Film Festival. Ange Dent and Nick Hagar are looking forward to taking Jack, 2, Isobel, 4, and Noah, 9, to the family-friendly events.
APRIL: NEVER TOO YOUNG TO PAY RESPECTS: ON Anzac Day one year ago, Matilda Moller, 18 months, had her photo taken with the wreaths on the cenotaph. Yesterday, she was joined by her five-month-old cousin Nathan Petersen for what will become an annual photo for the Muswellbrook children. As the nation paid tribute to our fallen heroes, a big local crowd descended upon Bridge Street for the traditional Anzac Day service.

OCTOBER: CREWS ON FIRE ALERT: Residents around Blackjack Mountain have had a nerve-wracking week. A fire, started by lightning on Sunday, has been burning through the dense bushland as Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews prepared for yesterday’s harsh weather conditions. Hunter Valley RFS incident controller superintendent Ken Hall spoke at a community meeting on Wednesday to update residents and help them prepare for the worst-case scenario.
