The YMCA built the gym on the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre grounds three years ago.
Muswellbrook Shire mayor Martin Rush said the YMCA decision created a good opportunity.
“The news this week that the YMCA has decided to cease its Muswellbrook operation is certainly disappointing, but it will create an opportunity to better integrate the various services and fee structures across the aquatic centre, gym, and crèche,” Cr Rush said.
“Council has invested heavily in new facilities at the aquatic centre over the last few years and we are busily planning for a further expansion of facilities there in the short future.”
Cr Rush said the YMCA had very ably operated the gym.
Members will be notified of the YMCAs final date of operation.
