An agreement between local businespeople Micheal and Gina Rinkin and the Muswellbrook Workers Club could deliver a venue many community members have been demanding for years.

The council gave in-principle support to the construction of a cinema at the club and re-affirmed its willingness to consider a financial contribution to the project.

Muswellbrook Shire deputy mayor Malcolm Ogg said there were several advantages to the proposal.

“It will offer a twin cinema with new release content,” he said.

“The project also adds to the financial diversification of the Workers’ Club and will still be located within Muswellbrook’s central business district.

“The agreement between Mr and Mrs Rinkin and the Workers’ Club has emerged as a fantastic solution to the issue and council is pleased as a result to provide its in-principle support to the proposal.”

Muswellbrook Workers’ Club general manager Scott Bailey said the project would be a great asset to the community.

He said the same entry requirements that apply to the club would also apply to the cinema, with club membership costing $3 a year.

Members will receive discounted drinks, meals, and movie tickets, and under18s must be accompanied by an adult.

“We see it as a first stage of a multi-stage expansion of the club and a much better use of the club’s footprint,” Mr Bailey said.
