The latest attraction at Lake Liddell is GJ’s Windtunnel Skydiving, a chance for people to fly without wings.
According to Ged and Julie Elphinstone, who manage the Lake Liddell Recreation Area and own GJ’s by the Lake, they are looking to make the site so much more.
“At the end of the day, we hope it will be a place to go and camp and do all this stuff,” Mr Elphinstone said.
“And get it (Lake Liddell) back on the map.
“We knew that anything we decided to do, would have to be for everyone.”
Over the past two years they have been working on the facilities at Lake Liddell Recreation Area.
This includes upgrades to the amenities, with hopes they can bring it back to its former glory.
GJ’s Laser Tag has been a hit, with the mobile battlefield enjoying successes at a number of community events as well as a recent school holiday knockout competition.
This weekend, the windtunnel will be open to the public, for those who want to experience skydiving without the plane.
The ever-popular laser tag will also be set up on site.
But, according to the self-confessed adrenalin junkies, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Once the correct permissions are gained, there are plans to add rock climbing, paragliding and a go-kart track to the site as well as taking the fun onto the water with waterski lessons and kayak and paddleboat hire.
Mr Elphinstone hopes that Upper Hunter residents will support the business, as it will put back into the economy.
“We are locals, employing local people, shopping locally,” he said.
“Our main market is not just locals; we are aiming at Maitland and Newcastle as well.”
