The Glencore 1,000 K’s 4 Kids is a ride to raise funds for Camp Quality.

This year’s ride began in Mittagong in the Southern Highlands on September 4, and will finish at Newcastle on September 14, making a number of town visits along the way, including Muswellbrook.

When the Lioness Club was asked to cater, their president Lorraine Thompson approached Woolworths to see if they could help with food.

“Being a small club it was a tall order for so many people,” she told The Chronicle.

“I spoke to Michael [O’Brien from Woolworths] and he never hesitated and I couldn’t be more pleased.

“It would be nice if people turned up to see the cyclists come through.” 

Woolworths Muswellbrook’s Michael O’Brien said the store consciously looked for ways they could support not-for-profit groups in town, from the Red Door Community Kitchen to schools.

“[Community groups] are the heart and soul of the community,” he said.

“In regards to Woolworths, although it’s a national brand, we like to think of ourselves as Woolworths Muswellbrook.

“We want to be the best we can be at this level.”

Some of the donated items include grapes, barbecue chickens, bread rolls, salad and bottles of juice.

All are invited to visit Simpson Park, Muswellbrook, at around 10.30am tomorrow to cheer the riders on.
