But it wasn’t the voices of library members or staff filling the air, but rather those of pre-recorded audiobook readers.
The Muswellbrook institution aims to make books as accessible as possible for all their members and technology can be a helpful tool to make that a reality.
Library members can now borrow the Kobo eBook Readers with thousands of preloaded eBooks on them.
Those with vision impairments can borrow the audiobook daisy readers which come in two sizes and were donated by Muswellbrook Lioness Club.
The devices play audio tracks of a person reading the book and can be used with headphones.
Borrowers can choose books to be loaded on to the daisy readers and library staff members can assist anyone who may need help with the process.
Muswellbrook mayor Martin Rush was very pleased with the new resources.
“The nature of libraries is changing and becoming much more electronic and it’s wonderful that the council can put on this important initiative,” he told The Chronicle.
“Congratulations to the Lioness Club on this wonderful donation.”
