Paul King jumped the stunning-looking chestnut straight to the lead and he gave nothing else a chance, going to win by two lengths from the Greg Bennett-trained Savvy Girl (Greg Ryan).
Jetstream, owned by Allan Jones and Arrowfield, was originally trained by Paul Messara and had his first start at Muswellbrook three years ago, running 10th.
He then developed a leg injury and became sick during EI.
“Allan Jones put him out on his farm to let nature takes its course,” Waugh’s foreman Terry Bellew said.
“Earlier this year he was brought back into work and given to Kim.
“In three starts he was unplaced after racing mid-field but leading today obviously agreed with him.”
Waugh’s colours were back in the winner’s circle in the following race when Misty Lights, also ridden by King, also led all the way to win the Two Rivers Wines Maiden Plate (1280m).
“She is a nice filly and that is not necessarily the best way to ride her but Paul had no other option,” Bellew said.
Misty Lights went on to beat the fast finishing Good Judge (Greg Ryan) by a long neck.
