Mark Everingham has contributed more than 35 years to the Heelers in various roles.
And, at the recent annual general meeting, he was recognised for that effort.
The club stalwart started his rugby career with the juniors in 1970 and went through to 1976.
He stopped playing at that stage due to work duties with Muswellbrook Coal.
In 1995, when son Kurt pulled on a jumper, Gecko used his experience to coach and manage the under-10s and various other teams as Stuart, his other son, joined the ranks as well.
“Gecko stated that the highlight of his rugby career was his retirement game in 2009 when he played alongside his sons Kurt and Stuart,” former president Tim Pike said.
“He’s also been honoured with the prestigious Rugby Cup four times.
“This award is given to a person who contributes to the running of the Heelers and actively goes out of their way to help the club survive.
“His role as treasurer has always left the club in a sound position.
“Gecko said he was honoured to receive life membership and he hoped to contribute many more years to the running of the club, particularly now that he has retired.”
This year also saw Muswellbrook Shire Council renovate the canteen area at Highbrook Park.
“It was a task that needed to be done and the workers under Andy Close, the supervisor, did an excellent job,” Pike said.
“I would like to thank Andy and the Muswellbrook Shire Council for their great work.
“The committee looks forward to working with the council to continue the restoration of the dressing rooms and grandstand.”
