The Bureau of Meteorology said Denman received 33mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Sunday and 38mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday.
Rainfall observation data recorded at Liddell, just south of Muswellbrook, also showed 24mm falling across Tuesday into Wednesday.
Duty forecaster with the Bureau of Meteorology Mick Logan said moist onshore winds coming off the Tasman Sea brought the rain to the Upper Hunter.
“Those onshore easterly winds are quite deep so they’ve been pushing right through the whole of the Hunter Valley,” he said.
“At this time of year the sea is quite warm so it means the air carries more moisture with it and when we do get the showers it’s easier for them to produce decent rainfall totals.”
The highest rainfall in NSW recorded to 9am on Wednesday was at the Hamlyn Terrace Public School on the Central Coast.
The bureau said 147mm fell in the 24 hours to 9am on Wednesday.
But the bureau’s Mr Logan said the Upper Hunter didn’t miss out.
“Tangory Mountain 25km west of Singleton recorded 67mm across Tuesday, Singleton had 44mm and Moonan Dam had 41mm,” he said.
Other nearby locations saw falls ranging from the high teens to mid 20s.
Mr Logan said showers in the Upper Hunter should ease this weekend, but it’s likely they’ll be back.
“Early next week the rain may return, with a trough causing showers to come in from the coast,” he said.
