The Muswellbrook Race Club is hosting a February 14 Valentine’s Day meeting, but it’s not your average outing.
For those wanting to take part in Fashions on the Field entry terms are unique. Items must be purchased through a charitable shop, entry is $5 and all proceeds go to the Cancer Council.
If you think you can’t look or feel beautiful in someone else’s glad rags, think again.
Muswellbrook’s Lifeline store recently held a photo shoot using many items donated to the centre after Christmas.
Local models Darlene and Sophie Scriven, from Muswellbrook, and Paris Forsyth, from Aberdeen, were completely transformed.
Lifeline’s retail manager for the Hunter, Newcastle and Central Coast Jason Fox travelled to Muswellbrook with freelance make-up artist, Tobina Walden, to show what a little bit of mix-and-match can do.
Sophie was dressed in a gold sequined dress costing $4, necklace and bracelet totalling $5, a fascinator for $25 and brand new designer shoes donated to the store for $40.
“The town has experienced some hardship and it is our way of saying people can still feel good about themselves and not blow their budget,” Mr Fox said.
“So, what we’re offering is free styling sessions on February 11 at the Muswellbrook store for anyone who’s interested, they’re absolutely free of charge, but people have to make a booking.
“It’s not just about the races, it’s about life styling,” he said.
“So, if you have a new job or you’re moving into a different sector and you just need some advice on what you should be wearing or how you should present we’ll try to advise you.”
After 30 years’ experience working behind the scenes on modelling catwalks and in fashion styling, Mr Fox has one hot tip for those who decide to go the recycled fashion route for charity.
“A races necessity is a pair of ballerina slippers in your handbag so you don’t have to walk around with bare feet when those heals end up killing you.”
