Danielle Nicol, 17, and Sophie Morgan, 16, will compete in their biggest tournament to date, the American National Championships, while on tour from July 7-23.
The St Joseph’s High School Aberdeen students impressed scouts at the Australian Nationals in Ballarat last year.
Despite also being previously picked to tour Brazil for a training camp, Danielle said heading to America was a dream come true.
“It’s going to be such a good experience, I’m so excited to head over there because they have some massive competitions,” she said.
“We’re going to meet up with the other girls on the team in San Francisco and then go from there.”
After countless trips to Newcastle for training, the girls were quick to acknowledge the role of their parents in gaining selection for the championships.
“We really want to thank them because they have driven us up and back so many times,” Danielle said.
“Training goes for an hour and half so by the time we get back it’s a pretty big day.”
Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller field and mainly takes place indoors. It can be considered a version of five-a-side football.
