Next week, August 30 to September 5, is Legacy Week and the local group is calling on the community for support.
The 18-member-strong Muswellbrook Legacy, lead by chairperson Bill Tindale, looks after 68 widows.
In the case of some of these women, they are alone and haven’t got a family with them to assist if necessary.
Some of the women require help changing light bulbs or doing other manual work. And, those in their circle of friends are often elderly too, and so they are unable to help with the chores.
This is where Legacy members come in and help the women.
Muswellbrook member Bob Keating said it is all about looking after their welfare.
“We have an annual Christmas luncheon for them,” he said.
On top of the Christmas celebrations, they also host a Mother’s Day event with a gift. All money raised in Muswellbrook by Legacy goes directly to the local widows supported by the Muswellbrook group.
Those interested in becoming a member, or donating, can contact Muswellbrook member Rebecca on 6543 3048.
