University of Sydney engineering students presented the Engineers Without Boarders (EWB) program to Muswellbrook High pupils who participated in either the floating houses module or the prosthetic leg module.
The floating houses module is a civil engineering activity were students create a floating structure so it can hold marbles.
The other, a biomedical engineering activity shows students how to make a prosthetic leg out of everyday materials.
After engineering their creations, the pupils have a small race.
Floating house module volunteer presenter Melinda Jiang said the group is travelling around regional NSW sharing their knowledge.
She said her school was visited by EWB when she was younger and it inspired her.
“It was really fun when I did it and allowed me to see myself in that [engineering] role,” the environmental engineering student said.
“We have a road trip around regional NSW and give talks to high school students about engineering,”
“Basically, this encourages them to use the science they’ve learnt in school,” fellow presenter Mei Yew said
