After a strong opening term against the fifth-placed Gosford Tigers, the hosts held a 9-13-67 to 3-0-18 advantage at the long break.
Muswellbrook sharpshooters Johnathan Williams, Ken Garland and Brian Martin were among those to put the side on the front foot, while Cameron Benkovic, Adam Higham and Jake Parker dominated the middle.
The Cats have been one of the big improvers in the Black Diamond AFL this season – and are now a realistic chance of winning a much-deserved flag.
The weekend’s fixture also marked Umpires Appreciation Round, with both teams lining up to thank the match officials.
