In October 2015, his 67-year-old mother Dianne was diagnosed with bowel cancer.
The diagnosis and treatment has been hard on the Muswellbrook woman and her son.
So, one day, Mr Connor thought it would be a good idea to try something different to boost their moods.
“I decided to help raise money for mum because, one Sunday, a few weeks ago, mum and I were so low,” he said.
“I thought I had to do something to get me and mum happy so I set up a [GoFundMe] page.
“We’ve had a few donations but not enough.
“We are raising money to help mum move here so I can look after her.”
One of Mr Connor’s co-workers saw his efforts to support his mother and wanted to make more people aware of how they could support the pair.
When he found out his colleague had spread the word, Mr Connor was overwhelmed to see someone cared enough about their situation to do that.
Mr Connor said his mother had a major operation to remove part of her bowel, and has since had chemotherapy treatments.
He has been her only carer and has been looking after her while working full time.
He said the current set up had been hard – difficult for his mother because she was alone in the process, and also for him because he felt like he could not help her as much as he wanted.
He would call her at least twice a day to check in on her, and help out where he could, but he wanted to do more.
“It was stressing me out,” he said.
“I have been very limited in what I can do for her.
“Just ringing her is not good enough for me.”
Mr Connor is hoping to raise enough money to pay for a removalist to help set up his mum in a two-bedroom Muswellbrook unit.
In the meantime, he has organised for his mother to stay in a motel room.
His other housing option had stairs, which was not suitable for Dianne.
“I’m her only support at the moment and I don't have much money,” Mr Connor said.
“Mum is on her own and needs to be closer to me so I can look after her.
“We need $1500 to $2000 just to pay a removalist and then set up [costs] for a two bedroom flat.”
