Students and teachers joined Muswellbrook Shire Council’s Landcare sustainability officer Nicholas Alexander and environmental projects officer Tracy Ward for Schools Tree Day, a prelude to National Tree Day on Sunday.
Over the course of the afternoon, the pupils planted 340 trees on the school grounds.
“We had 260 students involved,” pastoral care assistant Sally Jackson said.
“The school takes part in this event every couple of years.
“Also, we’re trying to get a Gold Star with ClimateCam.”
This weekend, at three venues in the shire, 2500 trees are expected to be planted.
From 9am to noon on Sunday, Denman residents will place 1000 local native trees into the ground, ranging from small shrubs and grasses, right up to large gums.
Those in Muswellbrook can also participate in National Tree Day, by attending one of two planting sites.
Locals are invited to meet at 9am at Karoola Park or Fitzgerald Park, alongside Muscle Creek.
