Not only will the town host the Group 21 senior grand finals at Olympic Park on Sunday, the younger Rams also have a chance to etch their name in the organisation’s history books.
Three sides – the 12s, 13s and 15s – will contest their respective deciders over the weekend, the club’s best representation for some time.
I think we’re a massive chance of bringing home the prize in all three grades.
- Chris Dengate
“It’s definitely one of our better years,” Dengate said.
“And, it has far outweighed our expectations.
“When you consider we didn’t field teams in the 14 and 16 age groups, it’s a pretty impressive achievement.
“As president, words can’t describe how proud I am of everyone involved.”
Muswellbrook’s 12 years’ line-up faces Greta Branxton, from 2pm, at Kurri on Sunday, while the club’s other two hopefuls go into battle on Saturday.
The 13s meet Raymond Terrace at Aberdeen, from 12.45pm, and the 15s tackle Greta Branxton at Kurri with kick off at 11.20am.
“I think we’re a massive chance of bringing home the prize in all three grades,” Dengate said.
“The 12s and 13s were minor premiers while the 15s went up a division mid-season and still finished second.
“Come next week, I hope we’re the premiers in all three age groups.
“The club wishes the players, coaches and managers the best.”
Dengate admitted grand final fever had taken over Muswellbrook.
“There is a buzz around at the moment,” he said.
“It’s great for the town.
“To see the main street and local businesses draped in blue and gold balloons and streamers is terrific.
“It’s given Muswellbrook a real boost and something, I believe, the town needed.”
