Now, if she had posed the same question to Tony and Eunice Johnston, the reply would have been “very magnificently, thank you”.
The Humphries Street residents captured the Muswellbrook Lioness Beautiful Garden 2016 award during the week.
The pair received a framed certificate, wine glasses, a commemorative plaque – and the admiration of the judges.
“We’ve been presenting this award for more than two decades,” Muswellbrook Lioness Betty Eriksson said.
“And, after driving around town for four hours, we narrowed it down to three places.
“But, in the end, Tony and Eunice’s effort stood out.”
Highlighted by azaleas, and many other various flowers, the garden certainly makes a colourful impression in Humphries Street.
However, Eunice was stilled surprised by the victory.
“I think my reaction was ‘fair dinkum’ when the Lionesses rang me,” she said.
“I’ve lived here for 22 years – and always been interested in gardening, especially after growing up in the country.
“I love it.
“Whenever I get time, and I’m not playing with the grandkids, you’ll see me out there.”
