More than 30 residents participated in the 2015 inaugural clean-up, beautifying about 10 sites in the shire.
And, the Hunter Valley Local Area Command officer is keen to replicate that feat on Sunday, October 30.
“Graffiti vandalism costs the community millions of dollars each year,” Senior Constable Gray said.
“The NSW Government is committed to reducing the problem by encouraging locals to support the state-wide prevention initiative, Graffiti Removal Day.
“Last year, volunteers came together with Muswellbrook Rotary Club, businesses, NSW Police and Muswellbrook Shire Council to identify, remove and, ultimately, prevent graffiti.
“Up to 30 people of all ages gave their time to clean up graffiti in town.
“So, it would be nice do to something similar in 2016.
“We’re also encouraging teams this year – the more the merrier.”
Senior Constable Gray said there were a number of ways for residents to “get involved”.
“You can complete the volunteer registration, either as an individual or a team, at www.graffitiremovalday.org.au; nominate a clean-up site, which has been vandalised by graffiti (at www.graffitiremovalday.org.au); or sponsor or donate a prize on the day,” she told the Chronicle.
“We’re targeting Olympic Park, the railway corridor and Hunter Park this year, as well as businesses and private properties.”
Volunteers are requested to meet at the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre, from 8.30am, on October 30.
“We’ll also finish at that location about 12.30pm,” Senior Constable Gray said.
“A barbecue, provided by Rotary, will take place at the end of the day to thank everyone.
“There’ll also be prizes, which have been generously donated by local businesses.
“It’s a good day and, believe it or not, a lot of fun.”
