But, despite those distractions, the message wasn’t lost as Joblink Plus in Muswellbrook celebrated International Day of People with Disability on Friday.
The local organisation hosted a free barbecue out the front of its office on Bridge Street.
The function allowed Joblink Plus to help spread the word and raise awareness about people with disability.
Disability and community services manager Chris Buckman admitted it was a great chance to showcase their services and acknowledge some of the many success stories in the region.
“We’re marking this year’s International Day of People with Disability, held each year on December 3, with an event that highlights the Hunter region’s strong spirit of inclusiveness for everyone,” he said.
“It is to remind the community why accessibility and inclusion is so important – and the difference it can make.
“We want everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, to come along, have fun and appreciate the abilities of our community.”
Joblink Plus in Muswellbrook has also been approved as a NDIS provider for a range of services, including accommodation/tenancy; assist-life stage, transition; assist personal activities; development-life skills; participate community; group/centre activities; support coordination; assist access/maintain employment; personal activities high; assist-travel/transport; and specialised driver training.
