The Chop Shop Butchery employee walked away from a recent Australian Meat Industry Council Apprentice of the Year competition as the NSW runner up.
But, due to the winner not being able to compete, Mr Lea is set to represent NSW at the AMIC apprentice finals next month.
Mr Lea will fly to Hobart for the national event, on February 15.
Part of the competition is to create something unique from a “mystery box”, revealed at the time of the event.
The Chop Shop Butchery owners Kevin and Alicia Close said they were proud of their employee, and wished him all the best.
The pair bought the business in 2016 – which makes the success feel even better.
Mr Lea said he was surprised with the result of the state finals.
“I didn’t expect to win anything,” he said.
