Six sides – Aberdeen, Denman, Greta Branxton, Merriwa, Muswellbrook and Singleton – head into battle for round one at McKinnon Field, Aberdeen.

And, host team co-coach Caitlin Albury said the Tigers were ready to “rip in”.

“I’ve been wanting to play tackle footy for a long time,” she explained.

“I used to run around with my brothers when we were younger.

“I think most girls understand that [growing up] or watching their boyfriends take the field.

“I know everyone wants to get out there [on Friday night] and show what they can do.”

Albury admitted she was impressed by the enthusiasm of her players at training.

“We’ve had good numbers and the girls are raring to go – they’ve really embraced it [the concept],” she said.

“We’ve got our shoulder pads and head gear.

“We’re really keen to play.”

Each outfit will contest two matches in the opening round, with the Tigers tackling Muswellbrook and Singleton first up.

“They’re a couple of tough games,” Albury said.

“Muswellbrook will be hard to beat; their women’s league tag side is always strong.

“So, I’m expecting something similar [on Friday].

“But, I’m confident the girls will hold their own.

“I think tackle might actually suit us better.”

Albury also praised her co-coach, and dad, Albert.

“It’s been good working together,” she said.

“His expertise and knowledge on the game is invaluable.”
