Clean Up Australia Day will take place on Sunday, March 5, with sites in Muswellbrook and Denman targeted as part of this year’s campaign.
“Clean Up Australia Day is a great opportunity for members of the community and local businesses to help keep our shire free of litter and clean up some of the areas that attract illegal dumping activity,” council’s sustainability officer Tracy Ward said.
“Residents, community groups and businesses are encouraged to volunteer for Clean Up Australia Day activities in either Muswellbrook or Denman from 9am at Simpson Park in Muswellbrook or at the picnic table near Merino Street in Denman (on the name path).
“Volunteers can register at these points and either clean up an area that is important to them or council staff will direct them to suitable areas.
“While some areas will not be suitable for children, there will be plenty of family friendly sites to clean up.”
Residents can also register online at http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au
Locals are reminded to wear covered in shoes, long sleeves and a hat.
Clean up activities are expected to finish at noon and council will provide a free barbecue for volunteers at both sites at the event’s conclusion.
Council is also seeking assistance from local businesses that may be able to help with the removal of dumped large items.
Interested businesses are encouraged to contact council’s Sustainability Unit to volunteer.
Council is dedicated to the environment and has actively participated in Clean Up Australia Day for more than 20 years.
Council not only encourages residents to participate in Clean Up Australia Day but to take pride in our shire and keep it clean every day.
