On Sunday, February 12, the town showed its support for Peter Weiss, who was ripped off by a handyman last year.
The Muswellbrook man paid for a carport to be built, but never heard from the tradesman once he had paid.
Residents rallied behind him and hosted a family fundraising day, attempting to raise enough money for the shed.
According to organiser Kellie Cavanagh, the event was a success, raising $2601 for Mr Weiss.
More than 30 businesses donated, along with individuals.
Mrs Cavanagh said it showed community spirit was alive and well in Muswellbrook.
“A special thanks to all volunteers, they were amazing,” she said.
“The band Forever Falling was a crowd favourite too.
“We also had many talented singers, and Expressions School of Dance dancers.
“Pete and [carer] Viv are so overwhelmed, and grateful, and lost for words on this community.
“They just can’t figure out what makes them so special that strangers would come together to help them.
“The most rewarding part was just seeing the community come together and complete strangers step forward without being asked.
“We had people volunteering their time, and the Chop Shop Butchery needs a special mention as they donated sausages [for the barbecue].”
Mrs Cavanagh said Terry Griffiths had stepped in to continue the carport construction organisation.
“So many people and businesses helped out, all in different ways but to simply put them into a list seemed to lose the gratitude I felt but there was just so many that I couldn’t possibly single anyone or anything out,” she said.
