The Muswellbrook Holden apprentice loves the work he does on a daily basis.
But, at a recent national competition in Melbourne, he received an added bonus for his efforts.
After a four-day contest, from March 13, Mr Palfrey-Kitchen walked away as the Holden Technician Apprentice of the Year Australia New Zealand 2016.
His service manager Chris Knowles said a group of representatives from each state qualified for the national event.
After winning the state competition, the Muswellbrook worker was a strong contender.
As a finalist, Mr Palfrey-Kitchen was already in the top 1 per cent of apprentices nationwide.
However, he continued to shine among his contemporaries at the Melbourne contest, which included three practical tests, and two theory tests.
“I was a little nervous this year,” Mr Palfrey-Kitchen said. “I’m surprised I made it this far.”
Regardless of the niggling nerves, he managed to rise to the top, and take home first place.
This was not the first time he had been recognised as being good at his work.
In 2015, Mr Palfrey was also celebrated at a state event in Sydney, when he placed first in his apprentice group for New South Wales.
Muswellbrook Holden dealer principal Graham Sealey said it was an excellent accomplishment, which required a lot of training.
“We’re really pleased and proud of Brandon’s achievement,” he said.
Mr Palfrey-Kitchen said the win opened up the possibility of more opportunities in his career.
“It gets my name around Holden ,” he said.
Following his recent success, the local worker would like to continue to build his career, and work towards his aspirations to be a successful engineer.
Holden technicians in Australia and New Zealand are judged on their results throughout the year.
