IF the Aberdeen Tigers were “upbeat” by the signing of Country star Josh Schmiedel, the Hunter Valley Group 21 club must be “over the moon” with its latest acquisition.

Former Manly Sea Eagles NRL playmaker, and brother of New Zealand Warriors star Kieran Foran, Liam Foran will don the “black and gold” in 2017.
Ironically, the siblings spent time in Aberdeen at the end of last year, playing touch football with a number of the town’s youngsters and enjoying a game of lawn bowls at the Sport and Recreation Club.
Aberdeen committee member Mark Wilton said Foran’s signature was a “boost for the Tigers”.
“Losing Joey Griffiths in the off-season was a blow, so picking up Liam is a major plus,” he told the Chronicle.
“He’s got a lot of experience under his belt after stints with the Sea Eagles, Melbourne Storm and Sydney Roosters.
“Liam attended training on Thursday night and is expected to start work locally on Monday.
“He’s moving up with his family.”
Wilton said all the pieces in the Tigers’ recruiting puzzle were falling into place.
“Josh [Schmiedel] and Guy Thompson are on deck, too, which bolsters our playing stocks,” he explained.
“The newcomers will fill a few special roles.
“But, we’re still hoping to sign another player in the coming weeks.
“President Les Horvath has also done a great job obtaining sponsors.
“Things are definitely looking up for the club.”
