Eleven boys from Years 5 and 6 – Harry Goodwin, Cohen Watson, Heath Baas, Freddy Cross, Ashton Blake, Ben Joseph, Josh Lacey, Angus Alvey, Lane Straney, Ty Christiansen and Rylan Gray – contested the Steve Simpson Shield.
Under the supervision of assistant principal Nicholas Garner, the youngsters played four matches – and produced the goods when it mattered most.
Denman Public School hammered Tarro 36-4 and backed up to beat Gillieston Heights 28-4.
The side then accounted for Largs 24-16 before handing Morpeth a lesson, 28-12.
“As DPS went through the day undefeated and there were no finals, the boys were declared overall winners,” principal Megan Druitt said.
“The trophy and medallions will be presented by the NRL at an upcoming assembly.
“Thank you to Jeremy Gray for assisting with the team and all the parents who drove and supported our school.
“This win means that the DPS side is invited to play at the Legends Shield in Sydney in Term 3.”
