Over the past weekend, a number of residents of the facility were identified as having influenza-type symptoms – and are continuing to be monitored and assessed for a positive diagnosis.
In this situation, the best practice guidelines recommend the facility restricts visitors to the service for a seven-day period.
This restriction is one of many strategies to reduce the risks of transmission to other residents and visitors.
“The decision to postpone the blessing and opening has not been taken lightly, but the care and wellbring of our residents is our paramount concern,” national director Bryan McLoughlin said.
“It is important that we maintain our commitment to the best practice guidelines and the expected industry standards.
“Options to continue with the blessing and opening were considered.
“However, it would have been impractical for the ceremony to occur without access to the facility.
“It’d also restrict the attendance and involvement of the residents of the facility in the opening of their new home.
“We are aware and acknowledge that a number of people have made special arrangements to be available for the blessing and opening.
“We sincerely apologise for the need to change the date.
“In the circumstances, we believe this is the best option for the care and wellbeing of our residents.”
