I really want to go further in life with this; this is the one thing I want to do.
- Harmony Liddell, 16
However, playing alongside her team, her competitive nature has been attracting the eye of selectors.
Considering she dreams of making the big time, she couldn’t be happier with her recent success.
The Muswellbrook 16-year-old was recently selected for the Open Greater Northern Ladies League Tag Championships, following a good performance with the Group 21 team.
“I’ve been playing league tag two years now,” she said.
“I was selected in the league tag representative Group 21 team.
“We had a trial game at Denman and all the Upper Hunter groups came.
“Fifteen were selected and then we went from there to Armidale and played three games.
“And then, Greater Northern were selecting.
“I didn’t know that and then heard my name got called – I was shocked.
“That was a big step for me.
“I really want to go further in life with this.
“Since I made the [representative] teams, it’s actually opened up to me I’m actually good enough to go further.”
And, by further, she means no less than representing her country.
“I want to play for Australia – that’s what I really want to do,” she said.
“I played union last weekend [with the Scone Brumbies].
“It was my first game, and I got asked by scouts to play for them.
“And they’ll come watch a few more games so that was exciting.
“My goal this year is just to be seen by scouts; that’s all I’m hoping for.
“I just want to go really far.
“This is where I start and hopefully I keep going.”
Liddell is very grateful for all the support from mother, family, friends, and coaches.
She hopes her hard work will pay off in November with selections for the 9s.
