The national honour recognises exceptional workmates in the growing sector.
Described by supporters as “a beautiful, warm, kind and giving person with a heart of gold and the patience of a saint”, Ms Matheson was a clear winner based on the votes care sector workers and supporters Australia wide.
“I am just very flattered,” she said.
“But you couldn’t do this job without a great team behind you because working in the disability sector is a total team effort and we have a brilliant team here.”
Ms Matheson works as a Disability Employment Services manager for Joblink Plus in Muswellbrook, supporting people with disability to find employment in the Upper Hunter.
She said people who work in the sector are passionate about their work – and need to be “patient, caring and determined”.
“It’s just so rewarding,” she admitted.
“Seeing the smile on people’s faces when they get a job and make it work.
“The difference it can make to their lives is amazing.”
Joblink Plus CEO Christine Shewry said everyone at Joblink Plus was extremely proud of Veronica.
“She’s an invaluable member of our team,” she said.
“It's wonderful to see her recognised and applauded by her industry peers.”
National manager of carecareers Mike Field said it was a tight contest full of quality entries from every state and territory.
