Thanks to the extraordinary donations that have been made to Where There’s A Will, these workshops (valued at $490 per person) will be delivered free by world-class presenter Geoffrey Ahern.
And, it is clear the towns are enthusiastic about learning all they can from the presenter.
Both workshops have been fully booked with a month to go.
He is an extremely insightful leader in mental health, who works alongside Victorian police in emergency response.
This course is ideal for parents, carers or those who work with young people aged 10-to-25 years.
The Aberdeen workshop is scheduled for Thursday, July 27 (day one), and Friday, July 28 (day two), at the Aberdeen RSL Club.
Muswellbrook will host its on Saturday, July 29 (day one), and Sunday, July 30 (day two), at a venue to be announced.
Course participants will learn about the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis.
Developing mental health problems covered are: depression, anxiety problems, psychosis and substance use problems.
Mental health crisis situations will also be addressed, such as suicidal thoughts and behaviours, non-suicidal self-injury (sometimes called deliberate self-harm), panic attacks, traumatic events, severe effects of drug or alcohol use, severe psychotic states and aggressive behaviours.
