About 4.10am on Thursday, June 22, an elderly male was pushed over while interrupting a man trying to steal his bird and cage on the verandah of his house in Hill Street.
On hearing a noise, the victim thought a cat was trying to attack his bird and walked to the front of his house to scare it off.
But, he found a male - described as approximately 30 years old, large build, 5’ 10”, darker skin, wearing a light brown hooded jumper – standing on his verandah with the bird cage housing two budgerigars.
The victim believes he was pushed backwards by the man and struck his head, knocking him unconscious.
He called police when he regained consciousness.
Officers found the victim with a 15cm wound to his head.
NSW Ambulance was contacted and conveyed the man to Muswellbrook District Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and later released.
The offender left the broken birdcage at the scene, however the two budgies, one green, the other white, are still missing.
Anyone with information in relation to this matter is urged to contact Muswellbrook Police on 6542 6999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
High-range PCA
AN Aberdeen man will appear before Scone Local Court in August after being charged with high-range drink driving.
About 11.40pm on Saturday, June 24, the 24-year-old drove a red Holden Commodore ute east on Graeme Street, Aberdeen, where he was stopped by police for a random breath test.
He returned a positive reading and was taken to Muswellbrook Police Station for a breath analysis.
That returned a high-range result of 0.160grammes of alcohol in 210 litres of breath.
The man came under the notice of police due to the manner of his driving, as he near missed a median strip and swerved back onto the road area.
The accused’s licence was immediately suspended and seized.
Woman books court date
A SYDNEY woman has booked a date with Muswellbrook Local Court, following a number of traffic offences.
About 1.40pm on Tuesday, June 20, the 27-year-old from Haymarket drove a grey Infiniti station wagon north on New England Highway towards Muswellbrook.
She was seen by other motorists to be talking on a hand held mobile phone and significantly exceeding the speed limit.
Police were contacted as a result.
The accused was stopped by Hunter Valley Highway Patrol near the intersection of Rutherford Road, Muswellbrook.
She produced a class C provisional P2 licence, however the accused had no P-plates displayed on her vehicle.
Checks on her licence showed that she was suspended from driving at the time of the offence.
She was issued a field court attendance notice, to appear at Muswellbrook Local Court on July 17, for driving while suspended and fail to notify RMS of change of address.
She will also receive infringements regarding using her mobile phone while driving, not display P plates and exceeding the speed limit.
